It started as a day like any other. We were preparing for work, it was very hot outside. People were rushing, all seemed extremely nervous, in other words – there was a traffic jam.
While we were passing Kosovska street we saw as people in foreign land seeking help, some place to spend the night, somebody to notice them after they fled scared from warfare that spreads through their country. We call them migrants. In my opinion that’s wrong. They are people that lost their home.
Halfway through the work day somebody unannounced knocked on the door of our office. Father and mother form Syria, scared for their son Hamza, came to us for help. From the beginning of procedure of applying the medicine into damaged tooth, child was calm. Then again, what’s our little fear of the dentist chair compared to the fear of war in your country.
Because we declined to charge them for the service, they left, but the mother came back and brought us one ring claiming it’s not made from gold. All aside, it was a pleasure for us to somehow ease their stay in Belgrade. We hope with all our hearts that young Hamza is happily smiling and that they are all happy. No matter how it started, the day we met was a special one. Providing help for someone that doesn’t have much is the highlight of our work. At the end we are all people and it shouldn’t be hard to act humanly.
